New City, New Experiences

Being in a new city comes with many new experiences. Depending on where you lived before, it might differ from the life you are accustomed to.  Luckily, Merida comes with things to explore and experience.

Merida Fest

Merida was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo, this means that Merida is 482 years old! As a comparison, the United States is 248 years old. Every year, the Merida City Council holds a festival called the Merida Fest. It lasts from the 5th to the 24th of January. During this period of time, many different events will take place. Including video artist festivals, circus acts, dances, poetry meetings, book presentations, concerts, and many more. The best part about them is that they’re all free

Carnaval

From the 7th to the 14th of February, Merida celebrates Carnaval. This celebration is one of the most significant in the area, the Merida Carnaval has its roots in the 1800s. Since then, the town of Merida has hosted one of Mexico's most beautiful carnavals, which is unique in that it features a new theme every year. In addition to the traditional cuisine, the Mérida Carnaval has something for everyone, including games for small children and exciting dances for the youth who organize the invited musical groups.
